Home for the Holidays is the theme of the current display in the lobby of the West Oaks Branch Library and Genealogy Center. The display is made up of historic items, typical of what would have been found in a West Orange County home in the late 1800s. The memorabilia are on loan from the Friends of Ocoee Historic Preservation group, and some of the items come from Ocoee’s historic Withers-Maguire House.

The display features kitchen implements used for holiday preparations such as cookie cutters, a block of tea, a rolling pin, and a meat grinder. It also presents items for formal family dinners including  china, a Victorian pickle castor, and a menu card written in calligraphy. The display also features after dinner entertainment such as playing cards, a stereoscope for viewing 3-D photographs, and a piece of sheet music by Stephen Foster, composer of Florida’s state song, Swanee River (Old Folks at Home).
